NANAIMO MAGAZINE – JUDY STEPHAN

Written by Bonnie Chomica, www.MarketingDoneWrite.ca

Nanaimo and Voyager Magazines deliver positive, community-oriented content enjoyed by a loyal following of readers. Since 2009, owner and publisher, Judy Stephan, has grown the publication in size, distribution, and popularity.

Locally produced as Nanaimo Magazine, when it travels between Victoria and Campbell River, it is represented as Voyageur Magazine. Advertisers and readers love the extensive distribution on all BC Ferries, in airports, and many business and community outlets, and look forward to grabbing their copy at the first of every month.

Even in this technological age, there is a need for this type of magazine as a good reflection of what the community is all about. People crave positive news, and Nanaimo Magazine consistently delivers an optimistic lineup of stories. There are respectable community news items, small business profiles, interesting personalities, not-for profits support, and arts and entertainment happenings. Along with Judy and two staff writers, there are several content contributors writing about varying interests, and some regular columns, including sports, health, and movie reviews.

Because the magazine is privately owned, it allows for very affordable advertising rates. Small business owners value this less expensive avenue to promote their product or service, and appreciate the flexibility of special packages to suit their advertising needs. Advertising dollars go along way with the wide-spread print distribution, and their website traffic increases also, because their ad in the online version is hyperlinked to their site.

Small businesses that advertise in this feel-good publication, can show their values are aligned with the community-building messages of Nanaimo Magazine. Mention that they are a Chamber Member, and businesses can receive a 10{3236bfe566a0d68e2245ffbb9d220fc7554709fab7d664768e3da2edc73a1bc9} discount off the rack card prices.  Contact Judy Stephan to book your spot, or to get more information. 250-741-8801 or nanaimomagazine@shaw.ca.

Member Profile – Legal Shield

LEGALSHIELD

LegalShield is breaking the barriers to accessible, and affordable legal rights. With a unique membership model, and a proprietary network of top legal firms that are paid in advance, LegalShield levels the playing field to the otherwise cumbersome, and high priced legal system.

Most individuals, families, businesses, or employees, would never consider contacting a lawyer because of the high hourly rate. With a LegalShield monthly membership, the designated lawyer has already been paid when a member calls, so they can get right to work, and not worry about billable time. In most cases, the member pays no additional fees.

Members learn to feel confident calling a LegalShield lawyer to get help for any number of life events, including unfair traffic tickets, warranty claims not being honoured, and adopting a child. There could be neighbour issues, family issues, job issues. These examples just scratch the surface of situations to get legal help for.

With a proprietary network of law firms across North America, and over 4 million members proving that the model works, LegalShield is changing the legal system paradigm, by helping people make a behavioural shift. Members become comfortable and confident working with lawyers. Just like going to their doctor, they know they can ask questions, any time. If something feels off, they can check it out before a crisis, or situation arises. LegalShield allows people to be preventive and proactive, versus reactive and defensive, which would previously have been expensive.

Kalon Goodrich is the Regional Manager, and welcomes a conversation with other Chamber members about the benefits of LegalShield. Besides individual legal support, they can also learn how to benefit from ongoing business legal help, with things like hiring and firing, debt collection, contract and document reviews, incorporation and succession planning. For details contact Kalon at 250-618-8718, or kalon@kalongoodrich.com.

Written by Bonnie Chomica, www.MarketingDoneWrite.ca

To help build a productive culture, and retain valuable employees, Eclipse Human Resource Solutions provides a suite of HR support services, including a unique approach to training. Headquartered in Vancouver, they have recently opened a Nanaimo office to serve small and medium businesses.

The labour shortage in BC affects most companies, so it is imperative to make efforts to retain employees and keep them engaged. Eclipse’s training programs do just that, by enabling change in culture, in communications, and in productivity. They are the official trainer for the BC Association of Manufacturers, and have helped local clients like the Nanaimo Port Authority, and Kw’umut Lelum First Nation.

Eclipse’s training approach is different. They don’t just come in, conduct training, and then leave. Eclipse has a comprehensive follow up program to mentor and coach participants over several weeks, to help facilitate results. This method ensures that a positive shift occurs with both executives and employees.

Eclipse excels at delivering customized training programs to address things like immigrant support, employee or corporate culture, or overall communications dynamics. Their dedicated stable of instructors are inspiring, and devoted to making a difference. Students feel that commitment.

On the Human Resource support side, Eclipse offers HR management support at many levels. They can provide services by the hour, create or revamp an entire HR department, or provide assistance with recruitment. They also help clients with the Canada Job Grants process.

Actively involved in giving back to their communities, the Eclipse team volunteers and provides support to groups like Nanaimo Family Life and Nanaimo Multicultural Society. Excited to now serve Nanaimo and other parts of Vancouver Island, Chelsea Allan invites Chamber members to contact her to learn more about Eclipse and their human resource and training services.
