Downtown Vandalism Relief Fund – Key Information
If your business or property is damaged intentionally or accidentally due to a break-in, vandalism, or graffiti, you may be eligible for financial assistance through a fund provided by the City of Nanaimo and administered by the Chamber of Commerce.
Vandalism Relief Fund
Eligibility
- Must be a downtown storefront business currently in operation
- Business must be located within the downtown boundary:
- Comox Road
- Milton Street
- Front Street
- Must fall within one of the following areas:
- Downtown Business Association
- Old City Quarter Business Association
- Victoria Crescent Community Association

What Is Covered
- Exterior building damage only
- Compensation is based strictly on submitted receipts
- We pay what the receipts show — nothing more
What Is NOT Covered
- Stolen or damaged inventory
- Computers, hard drives, or POS systems
- Printers, cash drawers, or other equipment
- Interior contents or business losses
Compensation Limits
- Maximum $1,000 for the first vandalism claim
- Up to $2,500 total per calendar year
- A business may receive compensation no more than twice per year
Security & Prevention Measures
- May include up to 50% of security or prevention costs
- Maximum $1,000
- A vandalism claim is required to be eligible for this funding
