Meet the Chamber Staff

Julie Sperber
Chief Executive Officer
Julie Sperber is a collaborative and strategic leader with deep experience in economic development, organizational leadership, entrepreneurship, partnership building, and community engagement across Vancouver Island.
Prior to joining the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce, Julie served as President and CEO of the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance (VIEA), where she led regional economic development initiatives connecting businesses, First Nations, local governments, post-secondary institutions, industry associations, and community organizations across Vancouver Island. During her leadership, VIEA introduced a new strategic plan, strengthened regional partnerships, expanded its year-round programming, and continued to grow the Vancouver Island Economic Summit as an important gathering for business and community leaders.

Her earlier work also included community economic development for Gabriola, DeCourcy and Mudge Islands, reflecting a longstanding interest in building economies that are vibrant, sustainable, and responsive to the communities they serve.
Known for bringing people and ideas together, Julie believes meaningful economic development begins with relationships and collaboration. She brings an approach centred on listening, empowering teams, identifying shared priorities, and turning opportunities into action.
As CEO of the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce, Julie will lead the Chamber’s work to strengthen member value, deepen partnerships, advance business advocacy, and reinforce the Chamber’s role as a connector and catalyst for Nanaimo’s business and non-profit community.
Julie begins working with the Chamber in a transitional capacity in August 2026 and formally assumes the CEO role on November 1, 2026.
