Root Interiors Ltd. specializes in workplaces, commercial buildings, and hospitality projects, which require a high level of knowledge relating to building systems, construction, and building codes. Shauna provides businesses customized interior design solutions that are not only functional and beautiful, but prioritize human health and wellbeing.  

What is something people might not know about your business?

Most people immediately assume that Interior Designers only pick paint, furniture, and artwork.  While certainly aesthetics are involved, very little of my time is spent on that.  Definition of Interior Design: https://www.cidq.org/about-cidq.  Most of the work I do involves more technical aspects such as space analysis, space planning, project management, budgeting, and construction drawing and documentation.  I am a Registered Interior Design (RID) with the Interior Design Institute of British Columbia (IDIBC), meaning I have been qualified through a rigorous process of education, experience, and examination.

Shauna wears many hats, partnering with real estate brokers, general contractors, and property managers in addition to working directly with tenants (clients).

What made you want to join the Nanaimo Chamber?

I just moved to Nanaimo, after living in the Lower Mainland for 25+ years.  I grew up on the island and my family is still here.  I always wanted to move back ‘some day’.  When COVID-19 changed the way everyone did business, it felt like the timing was right to make a change.  While all my work is still in the Lower Mainland, my goals is to build business in the mid-island region.  I don’t have any business contacts on the island, so I am excited to joining the Nanaimo Chamber of commerce to meet new people, learn about current events, and become part of the community.
